Our make-your-own activities are small projects for children that can be completed in about 5 to 15 minutes. Cost varies per activity. For information on which activities are available on any given day, please check with individual craft shops.
Leather Key Fob/Bookmark
Using traditional leather stamping tools and a small rubber mallet, children can personalize their own key fob or leather bookmark using a variety of letter and animal stamps.
Brass Spoon
A wonderful introduction to the world of blacksmithing, children can take a small sheet of brass, and using a hammer and an anvil, craft it into a functional metal spoon. Since brass is quite malleable, it is able to be worked cold.
Pinch Pot
Even the youngest of children will enjoy getting their hands wet with this project. They will begin by taking a ball of clay and, by using their hands and following instructions, shape it into a custom bowl.
Coil Pot
The next step up from the pinch pot, the coil pot involves rolling clay into long rope-like pieces then coiling and stacking the layers on top of each other to make a functional pot.
Woven Basket/Coaster
Visitors to the Homestead Baskets shop will get the opportunity to try traditional basket weaving using rataan reed and the same weaving techniques used by master basket weavers.
